About Us

The National Association of Black Journalists/Wisconsin Black Media Association is an organization of reporters, editors, photographers and other media professionals working in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. We are a chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

We exist to provide:
  • To support African-American professionals in mass communications and to recognize their achievements.
  • To help the media better reflect in their products and staffs the multicultural community in which we live.
  • To use its communications skills to assist the African-American community where appropriate.

Commitees:

Membership/Social
Shall promote membership in the NABJ/WBMA, approve all applications for membership and arrange and coordinate social events.

Program
Shall arrange and coordinate non-social programs for the NABJ/WMBA, such as workshops, forums, conferences and guest speeches.

Student Support
Shall arrange and coordinate activities to encourage an interest in careers in mass communications among African-American students, from elementary school to college; to help develop the communication skills of such students; and to provide college students majoring in mass communications with such support as mentoring and networking.

Finance
Shall oversee the finances of NABJ/WBMA and arrange and coordinate fund-raising activities. The finance Committee may operate jointly with Membership/Social Committee.

Public Relations
Shall publicize the activities of the NABJ/WBMA through the news media and disseminate a newsletter for members.

Affirmative Action
Shall promote multicultural hiring and promotion by media organizations. It shall help the media reflect in their products and staffs the multicultural community which they serve.
